Sunny Beach is situated in the southern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea Riviera. Stretching along a beautiful crescent shaped bay facing east, it is closed to the north by the descending ridges of the Balkan Mountain at the limit with the town of Sveti Vlas. The southern end of the resort reaches the peninsula on which is located the ancient town of Nesebar.

The semicircular beach strip extends about 10 km by 30 to 60 m wide of fine, gold sand with unique natural dunes that are home to 16 rare plant species. Warm sea with gently sloping sand bottom and approx. 1,700 hours of sunshine from May to October. The whole resort is built up within a park. Its impetuous expansion has made it the largest resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The picturesque town of Nessebar is also extremely close to Sunny Beach, as its newly built houses to the north almost merge with the resort.

The design of Sunny Beach started in 1957 and the construction work was launched by Decree 120 of 30 June 1958 of the Council of Ministers of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria. In the same time started the design and building of the park. For the forestation of the complex, on the site were brought 550 000 cubic meters of fat land, were planted 300 000 large-size coniferous and deciduous trees, 770 000 ornamental shrubs, 100 000 roses and 200 000 dune grass, the total investment exceeding 150 000 000 levs. From 1959 to 1988 Sunny Beach was visited by 7 699 100 people of which 5 162 600 foreign tourists and 2 536 590 Bulgarians. In 1989 the complex had 108 hotels with more than 27 000 beds, 130 restaurants, attractions and folkloric clubs, night clubs and discos, coffee and pastry shops, etc.

The hotels offer a total of more than 300 000 beds. The list of attractions is very long: surf, water ski, yachts, tennis clubs, riding complex, bowling, open-air and covered swimming pools, mini golf, and many others. There is a multitude of restaurants, street stands and shops (more than 15 thousand). The complex hosts the international popular song festival Golden Orpheus, the Days of symphonic music, a section of the International Folklore Festival, fashion shows, and various beach competitions. Once the Black Sea Highway is built, Sunny Beach will become one of the largest social and economic centers of Eastern Bulgaria.

Enjoy everything that the resort has to offer: long sunny days, tasty food, exciting night life, sports and entertainment.
